The Next Line-Up for the Martha’s Vineyard Concert Series is an Eclectic Mix of Rock-and-Roll, Blues, and Folks Sounds

by Diane Alter

The Martha’s Vineyard Concert Series busy summer line-up continues on Friday, August 6 with Entrain, a diverse and soulful six-piece Martha’s Vineyard band.

Formed in 1993 by drummer Tom Major, who played with the likes of Bo Diddley, Southside Jonny, Carly Simon, and Blood Sweat and Tears, the band has recorded eight albums, all of which have been acclaimed for their ability to effortlessly shift from a drum ensemble to rock to blues to jazz to funk– often within the same song.

The show will be held at 8 p.m. at The Loft in Oak Bluffs.

On Saturday, August 7, legendary singer and songwriter Joan Osborne will perform at 5 p.m. at The Loft. Osborne’s artistic talents span musical genres including rock, pop, soul, R&B, blues, and country. She has toured with Motown sidemen the Funk Brothers and was featured in the documentary Standing in the Shadows of Motown.

Wednesday, August 11 and Thursday, August 12, Badfish: Tribute to Sublime will perform at 8 p.m. at The Loft. A Rhode Island-based tribute band, Badfish: A Tribute to Sublime is dedicated to playing the music of Sublime– an American reggae and ska-punk band. The group does multiple tours per year and in 2008 was nominated for the Best Tribute Act in The Boston Music Awards.

Tuesday, August 17 Dalton & The Sheriffs will perform at The Loft at 8 p.m. A country band from Boston, Dalton & The Sheriffs is comprised of singer Brian Scully, guitarists Jon Silva and Steve Baker, bassist Sam Bouve, and drummer James Zaner. The five came together in 2012, released a full album in 2013, and over the next few years amassed a loyal, local fan base. A mixtape release followed in 2016 and another full-length album in 2017.
