Kids Camps at Island Spirit Kayak Combine Education, Environment & Fun

by Phil McKraken

If you are looking for something fun for your kids to do on the Vineyard this summer, Island Spirit Kayak provide the ultimate fun experience for your young ones; they offer an educational element to each day of their adventure program. The theme for 2019? Conservation!

“I feel like we have an opportunity to educate a large group of children this summer, and potentially impact the environmental future of the island” said owner Chick Stapleton. She believes that these kids will be the positive change in the future if they learn to value the unique beauty of the island at a young age.

Their Adventure Programs fill up quickly to keep the experience more personal and make sure the kids get individual attention from their experienced guides, who go through a long training before hitting the water with the kids each summer. Their School’s Out Program, featuring pirate day and beach olympics, is already sold out! “We’re super excited to host this new program this year, and we’re thrilled to see the positive reaction to it!”, said Chick. “Our goal is to teach the kids about the environment while making it an absolute blast.” During the programs, the kids will compete in trash pick up contests, search for quahogs while discovering their filtration process, and learn about sharks just to name a few topics. Don’t worry- their Kids Adventure week still have spots available- and they include a Pirate Day at the end of every week!

Island Spirit Kids Adventure Weeks run Monday- Thursday starting June 24th, and save Friday as a rain day in case of bad weather during the week, although Chick firmly believes that paddling is more fun in the rain! They offer an islander discount to make sure island kids all have the opportunity to experience the island from the water this summer!
