One of the premier pizza joints on the island, Wolf’s Den Pizzeria in Edgartown offers both a strong lineup of pizza classics and a couple refreshingly modern innovations. A favorite stop for both locals and visitors, Wolfs Den has two locations to conveniently serve anyone that’s hungry.

The Vineyard Haven location was the first to open back in 2015 when James Goff and Tanya Chipperfield took over the location formerly known as The Pizza Place. The Edgartown location soon followed. Both locations feature a bright airy feel with limited seating and the aroma of great food literally flowing out of the screened doors.

Wolfs Den is known for their incredibly tasty pizza, but they also feature a large selection of sandwiches, burgers, calzones and sides that are equally good. On a given day you will find specials that range widely and change often.  If you want to stick with the tried and true, the Meat Lover packed with crunchy bacon, pepperoni, ham, sausage and linguica proves a top pick, as well as the Mediterranean and BBQ Chicken. But if you’d like to go out on something of a limb, try the Brazilian, which is basically a Canadian pie with chicken, or the Thai Chicken, which features smoky grilled chicken, peanut sauce, scallions, and cilantro. These all sounded amazing, but I stuck with a half pineapple, half Meat Lovers pie to profile the place.

For the toppings, the pineapple was great (it’s tough to go wrong with fresh pineapple and lots of it), and the assembly of meats that make it a meat lovers on the other half of the pizza had all the smoky, crunchy goodness you could hope for, yet somehow avoiding the oily fate of so many other meat-oriented pies that end up drowning in a puddle of grease. The crust is light and airy but also crunchy as though it was purposely done that way. Perhaps If you’re not in the mood for pizza, however, the menu offers up one mean burger that is sure to leave you content and with a full stomach (check the best burger piece to see more on this burger). The menu also has the added benefit of including marinara-free white pies and accommodating vegetarian palates with a vegetarian section.  At the Edgartown location, some added benefits of the place include a shaded outdoor picnic area where customers can enjoy their food and take advantage of a cool sea breeze, as well as a fully-functioning antique video-arcade machine straight out of the 70s.

Wolfs Den is relatively new compared to some of the other Pizzerias on the island, but already it has become one (or two) of the favorites among locals and visitors. Stop by and check them out. Your tummy will thank you!
