“Chef Jhoseph Da Silva is creating flavorful, and approachable cuisine”

Quote: “We really listen to what our customers want, what they crave. Whether it’s healthier salad options or heartier dishes during the off-season, our menu really has something for everyone.” – Jennifer Toppin

When you step into the Ocean View Restaurant, it’s like coming home. If you live on the island year round, you’ve probably stopped in for lunch or dinner here at least once or twice. You know the people that work there – they become your friends. You have a set order because you know what you like and consistency is what this place is known for. Consistently good food that’s affordable and delicious and that keeps you coming back for more.

After going to the Ocean View a few times – to the Tavern area specifically, we decided to treat ourselves to the dining room area for date night and let’s just say it was the best idea ever. The dining room menu has a great variety of dishes, some of which you might find at any fine dining restaurant on island, like Scallop Risotto or Ahi Tuna Steaks on Jasmine Rice. The food is superb, to say the least, but let’s talk more in-depth about said food.

Crab Cakes

Start with the crab cakes as an appetizer, served with a chipotle tartar sauce that has the perfect amount of heat to pair with the sweet crab. When ordering crab cakes, I expect nothing but crab meat and seasonings, a squeeze of lemon to brighten it all up, and these cakes deliver. Barely any filler like bread or panko, they were just the ideal start to our meal.

Ocean View Seafood A La Russia

After looking at the entrees, we decided to skip having more appetizers so we could taste a few more entrees and boy am I glad we did. Because the entrees are where Chef Jhoseph and his team shine – they are very well put together, with much thought and care poured into the creation of each dish, making them literal pieces of art. For the seafood lovers, there are plenty of options to choose from but if I am to recommend a few dishes, here are my top three: the Scallop Risotto, the Seafood Pasta a la Russia, and the Ahi Tuna Steaks over Rice. All three dishes just blew us away, not only presentation but flavor and composition as well. The risotto was perfectly cooked and had so much flavor; the pasta a la Russia was enough to feed two with copious amounts of scallops, shrimp, fish, and mussels in a creamy vodka sauce; and the ahi tuna over rice were drizzled with a sweet soy glaze and came topped with zucchini noodles, which made the dish light and healthy.

Not into seafood and craving some meat? The Pork Shank is just what you need to order. A massive pork shank is cooked until “fall off the bone” tender, served in its own braising liquid alongside mashed potatoes and brussels sprouts – it’s the dish to get you excited that September is just around the corner.

Pair all these dishes with one of the many cocktails the Ocean View offers. You’d be interested to know that they even grow their own mint for all their cocktails, so expect drinks that are fresh and bright.

A great part of the island community, the Ocean View gets points in all departments – friendly staff, delicious food, and open year round for the locals as well as summer tourists. What more could you ask for?!
