Menemsha, once known as Menemsha Creek, is well known for being the shooting background for the fictional 1975 film JAWS.

A small town with just a sprinkling of places to eat and shop, Menemsha is perhaps most famous for its stunning sunsets.

The public beach is on the far side of the harbor as you drive in. There is parking but it fills up fast as the sun begins to sink towards the sea and throngs of “summer people” dot the wide white beach with food and drink in tow and cameras ready. Facing almost directly to the west Menemsha beach is perfectly situated for a vibrantly colorful sunset and they have them… often. Easy access and nearby public restrooms are a plus at this beach.

Many people will call in an order for precooked lobster and other seafood options to Larsen’s fish market. Upon arrival they will have a prepared picnic for you that has to be the best waterfront dining experience on earth.
