An Eclectic Montage of Carefully Curated Gifts and One of a Kind Finds

by Diane Alter

Tangerine is the kind of sensational shop that takes you on a treasure hunt. Yet it is the store’s owner, Sarah Omer, that is perhaps the biggest and best gem.

Sweet, serene, and oozing with ease, Sarah opened Tangerine in the summer of 2020. The timing could have been better with Covid-19 still a big concern. Still, Sarah describes Tangerine as a “pandemic-passion-project.”

That project has progressed into a thriving business at 42 Circuit Ave #4 in Oak Bluffs. To understand the aura of Tangerine and why it exists, it helps to know the origin of its name.

The store’s Tangerine logo is based on the Zen Buddhist symbol Enso, which is the practice of creating a circle with a signal brushstroke by Buddist monks. A complete circle signifies enlightenment, but a circle is rarely complete and never perfect–but always beautiful.

There is indeed beauty in imperfection. Sarah embarked on a quest to find unique and beautiful items to fill her store, and Tangerine was born.

The store is a kaleidoscope of color and eclectic high-quality items including jewelry, candles, books, baskets, plants, and one-of-a-kind gifts for him, her, kids, and yourself.

On a recent visit, Tangerine stocked leather & smoke hand soap, silver bobby pins, shot glasses, cotton moon garland, zero waste utensil wraps, and so much more. These are top-of-the-line items you will not find anywhere else.

A walk around the store is a walk amid nature and it leaves you feeling nurtured. Without question, that is the store’s captivating charm. Walk-in and walk out Zen–with a bag full of treasures.
