If it seems like your dog is being a problem, your dog is having a problem. That said, some intervention is likely needed.

Thankfully on Martha’s Vineyard a solution exists. That solution is High Frequency Canine Training in West Tisbury.

The brains, brawn, and benignity behind High Frequency Canine Training are owners Ben Ferry and Austin Higgins. Both are graduates of the Highland Canine School for Dog Trainers.

The entire crew consists of master and professional dog trainers, some native to the island and others who have been on MV for 20 years. It is all of these deeply rooted ties to the community that make this team of professionals work well together and with the plethora of breeds they instruct.

High Frequency Canine Training employs balanced training techniques, dog behavioral science, and the four quadrants of conditioning to teach a dog’s owner how to best communicate with their furry friend.

The first visit is a free evaluation. A team member will meet with an owner and their dog to determine the best approach. After the initial visit, the owner can select from several options.

Day training is a full day of training akin to doggy daycare but with skilled hands-on instruction. Private day training lessons are also available.

The basic on leash obedience package is a six week training program. Skilled trainers meet with an owner and their dog once a week for an hour and half. The program is highly interactive, with instructions on how to communicate with your dog as well as teaching your dog basic commands such as sit, down, heel, come, and place.

An advanced obedience eight week package is also offered, and a behavioral modification five week program is another option.

“A lot of people got dogs during Covid-19, and these dogs did not get the chance to interact with other humans and dogs.” Ferry told This Week on MV. “We introduce dogs to the real world full of real people and playmates via behavioral training.”

The reason dogs are called man’s best friend is because we can learn so many things from a dog’s behavior, personality, loyalty, companionship, and love. Sometimes, dogs need some learning first. Make sure you give them the best instruction so you get the best in return.
