Owners Jessica Lyon and Christina Izzo first met here on the island, and fell in love with the Vineyard style of living. Years later, they have man-aged to turn their affinity for the island spirit into an unmistakable brand that features everything from the basic logo t-shirt to the more classy selection of resort wear. This Week sat down with Jessica to find out more about the past, present, and future of Slip 77.

A modern day visitor to the Gay Head cliffs may not know that underneath one’s feet, buried in sand, lies an abandoned military bunker. The Martha’s Vineyard of 1939-1942 was a far cry from the balmy, tourist-centric island we see today. Co-authors Thomas Dresser, Herb Foster, and Jay Schofield have decided to pry open a window into World War Two era Vineyard by penning their first collaborative work together, Martha’s Vineyard in World War II.

Join a line-up of seasoned veterans and up-and-coming talents for six full nights of hilarious humor at the Martha’s Vineyard Comedy Fest! The HBO sponsored event will be taking over the Lampost in the heart of Oak Bluffs for its fourth season of multi-night comedy. Tickets are only $30 per night, and are available online at marthasvineyardcomedy.com. The festival will run from August 11th to the 13th and August 18th to the 20th.

Held at the Agricultural Society’s headquarters in West Tisbury, the four day event is an island staple. The fair, lasting four days, will be open for its 153rd year this summer, and is sure to provide delightful times to all that attend. The fair represents the meshing of two different sides of an island split by cultures, seasons,and backgrounds. A summer resident and a year-round settler both come to the same , the tourist and the farmer both see the same cattle, and the summer and winter are both represented as the late summer heat points toward autumn, and with it, thoughts of frost and winter.
