Laugh at your neighbor at this week’s Theme Thursday at the Shanty

There are two types of people here on the Vineyard: those for whom Polo Ralph Lauren is a lifestyle, and those who wish that it were an acronym for Please Only Live Once.

If you find yourself among the latter group, then this week’s Theme Thursday at the Seafood Shanty will certainly be the place to blow off some much needed steam as we coast into the middle of the summer season.

Each Thursday this summer will feature a different motif at the Shanty, as the upstairs dining room is converted into a dance floor with an accompanying DJ to throw down the tunes. The bar will stay open–and busy–until 1am.

This week’s theme? Tasteless of the Vineyard: an invite to poke a little good-natured fun at all the crowds of people who believe a long weekend in their madras pants once every year justifies the ludicrous price tag on such an obnoxious, clichéd pair of pants.

Of course, there’s a thin, gray line between pretending be to a Kennedy and actually wanting to be one–at one point or another, your boat shoes simply reek of desperation, not sweat. But then again, these aren’t questions worth pursuing at the Shanty on Thursday night. So come down to the docks for a night of unadulterated, 21 and up, judgment-free hedonism. Just don’t bring one of those Trump hats in the room–that’s likely for another Thursday.
