At first glance, the chocolate layer cake for two from the Seafood Shanty in Edgartown is a chocolate overload. This slab of heaven looks dense and rich. However, the cake is airy with a fluffy moist texture. What looks like goopy frosting is actually an incredible, silky chocolate topping that is reminiscent of a mousse. A border of fresh whipped cream that is not overly sweet but has the perfect cloud-like texture compliments the cake perfectly. Painted over the dish is a thin chocolate syrup with a sprinkling of powdered sugar. The plate also features strawberries, raspberry syrup, and mint for garnish.
