IMG_5574For those who frequented The Rare Duck or Dive Bar in the space below the Lampost, walking into Siren is like walking into another world. Siren raises the bar far above the dive bars of past years. When customers pass through the gated entrance on Circuit Avenue in Oak Bluffs and walk down the steps towards the front door, they reach the cool, sublevel sushi restaurant. Like a phoenix from the ashes of a local favorite that had grown tired and worn, Siren is grand and beautiful. The slick, shiny lacquered wooden tables that adorn Siren’s spotless interior are made from the old bar’s wooden panel walls. The brand new 30-seat bar alternates brick detail with sections of the old wooden bar. Anyone unfamiliar with the history of the establishment would simply think these touches to be sophisticated decor in step with the feel of the new restaurant.

To the left of the fully stocked bar and spotless new bar taps that will pour out a selection of craft brews, sits the sushi bar. The central focus of Siren’s menu is their extensive sushi selection, which is created and executed by their sushi masters. Customers can choose from sushi, sashimi, or traditional maki rolls. For the more adventurous, the chef special rolls combine different fish to create sushi harmony. For instance, the Beauty & Beast Roll features spicy tuna and salmon with avocado, tempura chips, and then topped with pristine yellowtail. For a more local touch, the Patriots Roll uses briny eel and sweet lobster salad together for an unexpected combination of flavors.

Never fear though, people who prefer to eat their fish cooked are covered at Siren as well. Their Not-So Sushi Menu offers clam chowder, lobster rolls, three different salads, tacos, lobster mac and cheese, and a daily pasta special. The fish tacos especially hit the spot with puffy pieces of fish perched on cabbage and avocado in a grilled tortilla. Kids do not go forgotten, as Siren aims to be family-friendly and accommodate diners with younger palates as well. From pancakes to chicken fingers, Siren can keep the kids happy while the adults indulge on sushi and more.

Open at 4 p.m. every day, Siren hopes to lure diners in with reasonable prices and quality food. Step into the oasis that just opened up this past week and get hooked soon.
