Macarena Alexander at The Sand Bar

Serving up summer time favorites, right on the sand.

by Aley Lewis

The Sandbar in Oak Bluffs is a hot spot for catching some rays outside on the patio, or

grabbing a drink at the bar. There you will find Marcarena Alexander, serving up drinks

with style. With almost a decade worth of bartending experience, Marcarena can make

some refreshing summer cocktails to quench your mid-July thirst. We sat down with her

to chat about bartending at The Sand Bar, and what makes it such a popular tourist

destination.

TW: What is your background in bartending?

MA: I wentMeetYorBartenderSandbar to bartending school in Orlando, and have been bartending for 9 years. I live

in Florida and travel back and forth. This is my third year here.

TW: What brought you to The Sand Bar?

MA: The beach, beautiful sunsets, and music.

TW: What are the qualities of a perfect summer cocktail?

MA: Refreshing and fun. It’s good not to taste the alcohol.

TW: In your opinion, what are the 3 behind the bar essentials?

MA: Vodka for sure, flavored liquor and juices, and lime. We do a lot of margaritas here

as we make our own lemonade and sour mix in house.

TW: Most obscure drink request you’ve ever gotten?

MA: Somebody last night actually ordered a Captain and root beer. That’s not very

common.

TW: Best part about bartending at The Sand Bar?

MA: I love the owners, and the music is fun. Everyone comes here to have fun, and

everyone is on vacation, so that’s great.

TW: If you were an alcohol, what would you be?

MA: Vodka. I used to drink tequila, but now I’m too old for that so I drink vodka.

TW: What do you think is the go-to summer 2016 drink for the Vineyard?

MA: Here, the lemonade stand. It’s grapefruit vodka, and lemonade. Its hot, so it’s very

refreshing.
