After a quick trip home, I feel a sense of relief as my ferry docks at the Oak Bluffs harbor. I walk onto the sidewalk and I see the smiles of families getting off the carousel. I see children skipping down the street, ice-cream cones in hand. I see parents hurrying behind them.

I see a young couple sitting by the water, looking up at the sunset. I take a look at the sunset too.

I take all of this in: the nostalgia of childhood, the freedom of being a young adult. I realize how blessed I am to be spending my summer on this island. I can feel excitement in the air. There is a sense of anticipation for what the rest of the summer may bring.

It is good to be back on the island.
