This one-of-a-kind entrée will leave you stuffed yet dreaming about when you can come back for it again and again.

At first glance, Edgartown Diner’s menu leaves you saying something along the lines of “I want one of everything.” So, for island visitors who are not here long enough to come back again and again, as well as for those who desire immediate gratification, we’ve got you covered. Without question, order the Southern Bennie.

This show-stopping, eye fetching, mouthwatering creation looks almost too good to eat. But eat it you will; every last luscious bite. But before digging in, take time to savor the arresting aroma and the attractive presentation.

Sure, snap a picture and post it to social media. This is one entrée item that is meant to be shared and widely applauded.

The Southern Bennie is chef Ralston Francis’s own creation. “It just came to me,” Ralston told This Week on MV. “I am always dreaming up new dishes, new combinations, and new flavors. I must admit, this one I am proud of and it is by far our bestseller.”

The culinary masterpiece is a an off-shoot on traditional Eggs Benedict. The base is homemade grilled cornbread cut into two squares, akin to two English muffin halves. Expertly seasoned fried chicken and perfectly pouched eggs top the cornbread. The piece de resistance is a wonderful, lick-your-fingers worthy, white “gravy.”

The Southern Bennie is listed under Breakfast Specialties. But late sleepers can keep hitting the snooze button without worry. Breakfast at Edgartown Diner is available all day long.

Edgartown Diner is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner in season from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. During July and August, a special late night bite menu is available until 1:30 a.m.
