When is a Pizza Place so much more than a Slice of Tomato Pie? When it’s Edgartown Pizza

by Diane Alter

Forget linen napkins and polished silver. Fine dining on Martha’s Vineyard includes paper plates and plastic utensils. It’s found at Edgartown Pizza.

This first thing you need to know is that Edgartown Pizza is so much more than a first-rate pizza place. To be sure, its
pizza is done right and the tomato pie options are endless. But Edgartown Pizza’s tome of a menu is ambition done right.

“We are pizza at our core,” said Chris White, who coowns this island gem with Danny Segal. “But in fact, we are as widely known for many of our other offerings as we are for our pizza,” continued Chris, who has one eye constantly
fixed on the kitchen and the other focused at all times on the humming dining room.

“Among our bestsellers are Teriyaki Tips, Steak Tips With Gravy and our Boxed Brazilian Beef Lunch,” Chris added. Another customer favorite is the Baby Greens Salad. This colorful salad’s bed is a heaping pile of verdant greens, fresh mushrooms, vine ripe tomatoes, crunchy pine nuts, crisp sunflower seeds and creamy goat cheese. The mixture, which provides a wonderful assortment of textures and flavors in every bite, is skillfully dressed with a heavenly house balsamic vinaigrette. A generous portion of seasoned grilled chicken can be added that is sure to tempt even die-hard pizza loving fans.

Sandwich lovers have a multitude of options. The Chicken Tender Melt Sandwich, made with a special BBQ and Honey Mustard sauce, Ranch Dressing and American Cheese is served on golden toasted bread. A side of remarkable French fries accompanies this show-stopper. The Brazilian Burger is another top seller. Topping a fresh beef patty cooked to order are ham, bacon, egg, cheese, lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, ketchup and mayo. “Everyone loves this burger,” Chris said with an emphatic nod.

And, everyone loves Edgartown Pizza’s pizza. From traditional cheese, meat lovers and vegetable to innovative gourmet constructions, people do indeed come here for the pizza. On a recent visit, an out of town family sat down to
a traditional pepperoni pizza pie. Big smiles were on all their faces. “We have been coming to Edgartown Pizza for the last 20 years, ever since we started coming to the island,” The Rose clan of Short Hills, New Jersey shared. “This
is always one of our first and most frequent stops on the Vineyard.” Without question, that’s high praise from Jersey-ites. Indeed, if there is one thing people from New Jersey know it is great pizza.

Edgartown Pizza also has a great kids menu. “We are a local, family friendly establishment,” Chris said. “We serve
excellent food at reasonable prices. Our staff is trained to be the most pleasant. We love kids, and crying babies don’t
scare us.” Embracing kids and family is apparent in the restaurant’s charitable endeavors. This year-round island fixture is generous to the community, offering things like discounts for different youth organizations.

Open from 10:30 a.m. until 10 p.m., Edgartown Pizza has gluten free options and serves imported and domestic beer, as well as wine. It also offers a takeout service. Customers can go to www.mvtakeout.com and place an order for delivery. Still, Chris and Danny hope all of their repeat and new customers will come in person. “The entire staff at Edgartown Pizza hope you’ll stop by to share some of your summer with us and experience the unforgettable ambiance and good food we offer all day and every day,” Chris said.
