The first MV Beach Road Weekend Promises Great Music, a Favorite Island Classic Film, Fabulous Food and Plenty of Fun

Martha’s Vineyard has an oversized reputation for pristine beaches, attracting the best musical artists, and home of the cult-like film “Jaws.” This August, experience all three of the Vineyard’s biggest draws in the first star-studded, jam-packed Beach Road Weekend.

The three-day event will be held at Vineyard Memorial Park in Vineyard Haven, close to downtown and the Tisbury ferry docks.

Presented by Innovations Arts & Entertainment, the same people that have made the MV Concert Series one of the island’s most successful summer attractions, Beach Road Weekend debuts on Friday, August 9 with a showing of “Jaws,” accompanied by music from the Cape Symphony.

Saturday, August 10 features rock-and-roll legend and Creedence Clearwater Revival icon John Fogerty. Fogerty doesn’t just write songs, he writes poems, stories, and sonnets. His music is natural, and his hair-raising delivery is like a battle cry.

Headlining with Fogerty is American indie/roots band, Dispatch. The Boston based band has a rootsy- jam sound that is soulful and toes-in-the-sand perfect.

Also performing on August 10 is Mexican-American rock musician Alejandro Escovedo, best known for rocking the music scene in Austin. Texas.

Additionally, on Saturday, North Mississippi Allstar, an American southern rock/blues band from Hernando, Mississippi, will showcase their vocal and musical abilities. Brothers Luther and Cody Dickinson delight with an infectious country-blues sound that you don’t simply listen to, you also take part in.

Rounding out Saturday line-up is American folkpop singer-songwriter Mason Jennings. Well-known for his distinctive voice and heart-tugging songwriting, Jennings’s lyrics stay with you. Even when his songs are over, they are not really done because they linger inside you.

Closing out the weekend are Phil Lesh and Friends, an American rock band formed and led by Phil Lesh, former bassist of the Grateful Dead; Grace Potter, a multi-instrumentalist/singer songwriter who has earned a loyal island following and fanbase; New Orleans funk-rock band Galactic; Matthew Paul Miller, aka Matisyahu, a reggae singer, rapper, beatboxer, and alternative rock musician; and The Original Wailers, a reggae band formed by Al Anderson and Junior Marvin, famed as guitarist for Bob Marley & The Wailer.
